Sculptra, Radiesse and traditional dermal fillers are all injectable treatments, but they do not work in the same way. Some provide volume and contour support directly, while others also support collagen production for changes that develop more gradually.
The right option depends on your anatomy, areas of concern, desired timeline and whether your goal involves structure, volume, contour or skin quality. No option is universally best.
Quick comparison
- Sculptra: made with poly-L-lactic acid and designed to support gradual collagen production.
- Radiesse: a biostimulatory filler made with calcium hydroxylapatite. It provides volume and contour support while also supporting the body’s natural collagen production.
- Traditional dermal filler: often hyaluronic acid, used to add targeted volume, shape or support directly.
Results, suitability and treatment planning vary by patient. This comparison is educational, not a substitute for a provider assessment.
What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an injectable collagen-stimulating treatment made with poly-L-lactic acid. It may be considered for gradual facial-volume restoration, cheek-area changes, firmness or broader facial rejuvenation. Changes develop over time rather than appearing as a final result immediately.
Some temporary fullness may be visible after treatment, but early appearance is not the final collagen response. A plan may include more than one session, but the number and spacing should be determined for the individual.
What is Radiesse?
Radiesse is a biostimulatory filler made with calcium hydroxylapatite. It provides volume and contour support while also supporting the body’s natural collagen production. Depending on assessment, Aura Vitale may consider it for the cheeks or midface, chin and jawline.
Radiesse is not a delayed-only treatment, but neither the visible response nor the longer-term change should be presented as guaranteed. Treatment areas and suitability require provider assessment.
What is traditional dermal filler?
Traditional filler commonly refers to hyaluronic-acid filler. It may add lip volume or definition, improve cheek or chin shape, restore facial volume, support facial balancing or soften selected lines and folds. Results may be visible soon after treatment, although swelling can temporarily affect appearance.
Different fillers have different levels of softness, flexibility and support. Hyaluronic-acid filler can often be broken down with hyaluronidase when medically appropriate; that does not mean every complication or result can be reversed instantly.
How do you compare the options?
You might discuss Sculptra when gradual change and broader collagen support are priorities. You might discuss Radiesse when volume and contour support alongside collagen support fit the goal. You might discuss hyaluronic-acid filler when targeted volume, shaping, lip treatment or precise contouring is the priority.
These are discussion points, not universal candidate rules. More product does not automatically create a better result, and not every patient needs multiple types of injectable. A staged plan may be appropriate, or your provider may recommend waiting or choosing a different treatment.
What about cost?
Your expected cost depends on the product, treatment areas, estimated amount and whether the plan is staged. Ask Aura Vitale for current pricing and a personalized estimate before treatment.
For commercial information, review the Dermal Fillers, Sculptra and Radiesse pages. A consultation is the appropriate place to discuss suitability, risks and expected cost.
What are the risks?
Injectable treatments can cause swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness, firmness or temporary lumps. More serious complications are possible. Contact your provider immediately for severe or increasing pain, pale or discolored skin, coolness, blistering or worsening skin changes. Seek emergency care for sudden vision changes, facial weakness, difficulty speaking or other stroke-like symptoms.
Discuss Your Options
You do not need to choose among Sculptra, Radiesse and traditional filler on your own. Start with an Aura Signature Consultation to discuss which approach, if any, supports your features and goals.
